Present disclosure provides a new process for the preparation of central nervous system (CNS) stimulant Prolintane from commercially available starting material using simple transformations in good overall yield. The present invention provides a retrosynthesis of Prolintane of formula I as shown in Figure 1 of sheet 1. The secondary hydroxyl compound (IV) would serve as a key intermediate for the synthesis which can be extended to pyrrolidine derivative (V) via Mitsunobu reaction. Simple amide reduction followed by hydrogenation of the olefin can lead to the target molecule of formula (I).
