The current invention relates to a method for preparing a collagen formulation suitable for injection, comprising the steps: a) providing a collagen solution having a pH which is lower than 6； and b) adding an amount of liquid neutralizing agent to said collagen solution, resulting in the collagen formulation wherein said collagen formulation has a pH of between 6.5 and 8.5. The inventions also relates to a kit for preparing said collagen formulation and the kit and the collagen formulation for use in the treatment of a pathology in the musculoskeletal system in a subject.
