PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide low-toxicity SL-containing compositions.SOLUTION: A low-toxicity SL-containing composition has the following characteristics: (a) it contains at least an acidic SL derived from an SL-producing yeast culture, and a fatty acid and a hydroxy fatty acid, where their respective contents are as follows in terms of dry weight when the total amount of the acidic SL, lactonic SL and fatty acid and hydroxy fatty acid is 100 mass%: (1) 94-99.99 mass% of the acidic SL, (2) 0-2 mass% of the lactonic SL, and (3) 0.01-4 mass% of the fatty acid and hydroxy fatty acid in total； (b) the ratio of the lactonic SL, and the ratio of the fatty acid and hydroxy fatty acid (in total), to 100 pts.mass of the acidic SL contained in the low-toxicity SL-containing composition are respectively 0-2.12 pts.mass and 0.01-4.25 pts.mass； and (c) neither the acidic SL nor lactonic SL contained in the low-toxicity SL-containing composition has an acetyl group.SELECTED DRAWING: None
