A synergistic herbicidal composition comprising a herbicidally effective amount of (a) a compound of formula (I) or an agriculturally acceptable salt or ester thereof and (b) a protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor. A composition according to claim 1, wherein (a) is a compound of formula (I), a C1-6 alkyl ester of a compound of formula (I) or a benzyl ester of a compound of formula (I). A method for suppressing unwanted vegetation, which comprises contacting the vegetation or its locus, or applying it to the soil or introducing into water to prevent germination or growth of the vegetation of a herbicidally effective amount of (a) a compound of formula (I) or an agriculturally acceptable salt or ester thereof and (b) protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor. 7.
