A synergistic herbicidal composition containing a herbicidally effective amount of (a) a compound of formula (I) or an agriculturally acceptable salt or ester thereof and (b) a herbicide that inhibits the synthesis of VLCFA and fatty acids / lipids. A composition according to claim 1, wherein (a) is a compound of formula (I), a C1-6 alkyl ester of a compound of formula (I) or a benzyl ester of a compound of formula (I). The composition according to any one of paragraphs. 1 and 2, where (b) represents at least one compound or its agriculturally acceptable salt, carboxylic acid, carboxylate salt or ester selected from the group consisting of: acetochlor, alachlor, anilophos, benfuresate, kafenstrol, dimethenamide- P, phenoxasulfone, fentrazamide, indanophan, flufenacet, mefenacet, s-metolachlor, molinate, petoxamide, pretilachlor, prosulfocarb, pyroxasulfone, tenylchlor and thiobencarb. 4. The composition according to any one of paragraphs. 1 and 2, additionally containing an agriculturally acceptable excipient or carrier. 5. The composition according to any one of paragraphs. 1 and 2, further comprising an herbicide antidote. 6. A method for suppressing unwanted vegetation, which comprises contacting the vegetation or its locus, or applying it to the soil or introducing into water to prevent germination or growth of the vegetation of a herbicidally effective amount of (a) a compound of formula (I) or an agriculturally acceptable salt or ester thereof and (b) a herbicide inhibiting the synthesis of VLCFA and fatty acids / lipids. 7. A method according to claim 6, wherein (a) is a compound of formula (I), a C1-6 alkyl ester of a compound of formula (I) or a benzyl ester of a compound of formula (I).
