PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing/suppressing slime in a circulating cooling water system, which is less likely to block a separation membrane installed in the exhaust water collecting system, in a circulating cooling water system provided with the discharged water recovery system, and to the method. Provide a slime remover/suppressor for use. SOLUTION: A step of adding a slime removing/suppressing agent containing a polyvinyl alcohol resin having a saponification degree of 75 mol% or more and less than 100% to circulating water of a circulating cooling water system, and water discharged from the circulating cooling water system. And a method for removing/suppressing slime, which includes a step of taking out water, a step of permeating a part of the taken-out discharged water with a separation membrane, and a step of returning water that has passed through the separation membrane to the circulating cooling water system, and a saponification degree. Of 75% by mole or more and less than 100% by weight is a slime removing/suppressing agent.
