The invention provides a near field communication (NFC) enabled audio speaker comprising a NFC module adapted to wirelessly communicate with a NFC enabled host device such as a smart phone, wherein, when the smart phone is arranged to be positioned near to the speaker over a 'tap event', the NFC module is adapted to harvest energy wirelessly from the smart phone, and subsequently, to utilise the harvested energy to initiate an operation including powering up the speaker from its own power supply. The invention also provides a system comprising the NFC enabled audio speaker and the NFC enabled smart phone as described above. The invention further provides a method of initiating powering up of the NFC enabled audio speaker by tapping a NFC enabled smart phone against the speaker.
