Provided is a gel composition including a betaine-based emulsifier and suitable for use as a thickener for cosmetics and the like. The gel composition includes: a neutralized product of an alkyl-modified carboxyl group-containing polymer, which is a copolymer of monomers including 100 parts by mass of (a) a (meth)acrylic acid, 2.5-5 parts by mass of (b) a (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester in which the carbon number of the alkyl group is 18-24, and no more than 0.1 parts by mass of (c) a compound having two or more of an ethylenically unsaturated group； and a betaine-based emulsifier.L'invention concerne une composition de gel comprenant un émulsifiant à base de bétaïne et étant appropriée pour être utilisée en tant qu'épaississant pour des produits cosmétiques et similaires.
