PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for suppressing blood pressure elevation comprising a substance which is natural polysaccharides derived from natural dietary fibers, expected of effective utilization, having high safety and capable of ameliorating primary hypertension and ingestible in an optional form. SOLUTION: This composition for suppressing the blood pressure elevation comprises a chitin oligosaccharide and/or a chitosan oligosaccharide as a substance capable of suppressing the blood pressure elevation or a substance having hypotensive actions. When the chitosan oligosaccharide is contained, the composition comprises the chitosan oligosaccharide in the form of a salt. The composition is a food, a beverage, a feed or a medicine.
