The invention provides a dispenser shutter assembly 400 for an automated teller machine. The dispenser shutter assembly includes a shutter closure including a shutter plate 410 that moves between a shutter open position and a shutter closed position. Cam followers 440, 445 are attached to the shutter plate. A motor operated cam 420 acts on the cam followers to move the shutter plate to the closed and open positions. A cam rotation restrictor 470 is positioned to prevent rotation of the cam beyond an over centre position on its axis 430 during moving of the shutter plate to the closed position of the shutter. Subsequent manual, fraudulent, forced opening of the shutter plate forces rotation of the cam in the reverse direction, preventing damage to the cam mechanism since the motor is designed to be overridden when force is applied.
