PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide skin barrier recovery function ameliorating agents which are effective in improving a reduced skin barrier recovery function such as a reduced mucous membrane function caused by a psychological stress load.SOLUTION: The skin barrier recovery function ameliorating agents for improving a reduced skin barrier recovery function caused by psychological stress resulting from overpopulation, which contain β-cryptoxanthin derived from citrus or its processed materials (preferably the rind or pressing residues of Citrus unshiu) as an active ingredient, are incorporated into topical preparations for the skin.
