A novel method for coloring keratin fibers, such as hair, is provided that can provide improved color strength and color persistence to keratin fibers using direct dyes. The present invention provides a method for coloring keratin fibers, preferably hair, comprising (i) (a) an alkylaminosulfonic acid and at least one selected from those of the formulas (I) and (II). Applying one compound, (b) at least one direct dye, and (c) a composition comprising at least one alkali agent onto keratin fibers, and (ii) heating the keratin fibers, (iii) optionally rinsing and / or drying the keratin fibers. The present invention can provide excellent coloring efficiency, for example, color intensity and color persistence.
