656,284. Shears. TUGGY, W. G. Oct. 11, 1948, No. 26460. [Class 30] Garden shears comprise a pair of pivoted scissor-like supporting members which are provided with tang ends for attachment to wood hand grips, thin cutting blades being secured to the facing surfaces of the supporting members by countersunk screws. As shown cutting blades 9, 10, which may be hollow ground and preferably extend as far as the pivot 6, are received in recesses in the supporting members 4, 5 and are secured by screws 11 the heads of which are recessed into the blades. A spring washer may be located on the bolt of the pivot which may be secured by a split pin or by a serrated lock washer. The closing of the blades is controlled by an adjustable stop 12 consisting of an eccentric washer 13 secured, after rotary adjustment on a stud, by a nut. The supporting members may be spaced apart by a collar equal in length to the joint thicknesses of the blades instead of being recessed to receive the blades.
