A method for evaluating and / or quantifying a patient’s tofus response during a urate-lowering treatment, comprising the steps of: a) taking a photograph of each initial tofus to a uratium-reducing treatment and each tofus after said treatment； b) measure the largest size and perpendicular size of the specified tofus before and after the specified treatment； c) calculate the area of the specified tofus before and after the specified treatment by multiplying the specified largest size and the specified perpendicular p zmera； d) comparing tophi area before and after said lowering urate level of treatment； f) indicate that a change in tofus area relative to the indicated baseline value correlates with therapeutic efficacy. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the urate-lowering treatment provided to a patient in need thereof is pegylated uricase treatment. The method according to claim 2, wherein the pegylated uricase is administered in a dosage of 8 mg every 2 weeks. The method of claim 2, wherein the pegylated uricase is administered in a dosage of 8 mg every 4 weeks. The method according to claim 2, in which photographs of tofus are taken after 25 weeks of treatment with pegylated uricase. The method according to claim 2, in which photographs of tofus are taken after 19 weeks of treatment with pegylated uricase. The method according to claim 2, in which photographs of tofus are taken after 13 weeks of treatment with pegylated uricase. The method of claim 1, wherein said patient suffers from gout. The method of claim 8, wherein said gout is immune to conventional treatment. The method of claim 9, wherein said gout is chronic or nodular.1.
