Disclosed are systems and methods for developing customized devices for use in one or more surgical procedures. The systems and methods incorporate patient-specific anatomical features or forms, which can be derived from the collection of MRI or CT data to produce at least one custom device. According to a preferred embodiment, the customized device includes a plurality of complementary surfaces based on a plurality of data points from MRI or CT data. Thus, each device fits exactly the same and is directed around the patient's own anatomy and may further provide any desired axial alignment or insertion trajectory.
