summary interactive visual guidance tool for a device is an interactive visual guidance tool for imaging acquisition and display system which is configured for user navigation in relation to a block of a field of view ( 216), which detects and spatially defines the block. It also incorporates a symbol 244 into the joint display image which visually represents the definition. The symbol is moved dynamically according to the movement in relation to the blocking of the field of view. The symbol may be in the shape similar to a line segment, or two symbols (244, 248) may be joined in a "v" shape to frame a non-blocking region. the definition may be based on determining whether ultrasound beams in their directions may be blocked. Imaging channels are included to derive the image in some embodiments for receiving image data for which a coherence metric, that is, similarity between channel data, is computed. The determination for one direction is based on the metric for locations in that direction.
