PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a model non-human animal contracting type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or pituitary dwarfism, a method for producing the same, and a method for screening a preventing and treating agent of the type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or pituitary dwarfism and a method for diagnosing the type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or pituitary dwarfism by using the model animal. SOLUTION: This model non-human animal having defective stress-associated endoplasmic reticulum protein SERP1 gene function on its chromosome and contracting the type 2 diabetes mellitus caused by insulin secretion abnormality and/or endoplasmic reticulum function abnormality, and/or pituitary dwarfism caused by the abnormal biosynthesis of growth hormone in the pituitary is produced. By using the model non-human animal contracting type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or pituitary dwarfism, the screening of the preventing and treating agent of the type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or pituitary dwarfism is performed.
