The imaging unit includes: an imager having an imaging element that receives and photoelectrically converts light from a target to be captured a branching unit that branches a signal including image information input from the imager into two a first converter that performs a conversion process of converting one of branched signals into an optical signal a second converter that performs a conversion process of converting the other one of the branched signals into an electric signal a first output unit that output the optical signal converted by the first converter to outside a second output unit that outputs the electric signal converted by the second converter to outside a detector that detects a unit connected to the imaging unit and a control unit that causes the first output unit to output the optical signal if the detected unit is the control unit and causes the second output unit to output the electric signal if the detected unit is the inspection unit.
