An air treatment device comprises an electrostatic precipitator 100 configured to charge airborne particles in the vicinity of the precipitator; and a plasma generator positioned adjacent to the electrostatic precipitator. The generator is configured to expose the charged airborne particles to plasma. Suitably, the plasma generator comprises a coil assembly 201, wherein the coil assembly has a cylindrical inner mesh electrode (701, Fig. 7), a cylindrical outer mesh electrode (602, Fig. 7) and a cylindrical dielectric tube (601, Fig. 7) which separates the inner and outer meshes. In another aspect, an air treatment device comprises an arcuate electrostatic wire electrode (1002, Fig. 10) configured to charge airborne particles; and a cylindrical coil assembly positioned adjacent to the wire electrode. The coil assembly is configured to attract the charged particles thereto and to discharge plasma. The arcuate electrode and cylindrical coil assembly are concentric to each other. In a further aspect, electrodes that are configured to charge airborne particles are in the form of a linear array of needle electrodes (1101, Fig. 11).
