The present invention is for a device that aids a user in getting into and out of a bed. The invention is for a bedside assist handrail, which comprises an arched (1) vertical tubular handrail (2) having height adjustable means, with fixtures plates (12) attached to the rail for insertion into a bed mounted bracket (21). Preferably the handrail can be inserted or removed from the bed mounting plate by the user. The handrail may be used with a mechanical bed in the sitting position. The handrail may further comprise a planar tee fixture plate and tee slot.
