We claim: 1. A injectable neuroseroid nanoparticle formulation comprising nanoparticles having a D50 of less than 2,000 nm, said nanoparticles comprising a neurosteroid of formula I and at least one surface stabilizer, wherein said variables R 1 -R 9 and X are defined herein. The surface stabilizer may be a polymeric surface stabilizer such as hydroxyethyl starch, dextran, or povidone. The injectable neuro-steroid nanoparticle formulation may be an intravenous formulation. The present application also provides a lyophilized powder of the injectable neuro-steroid nanoparticle formulation that can be reconstituted in an aqueous solution prior to administration. The present application provides injectable neuro steroid nanoparticle formulations and dry powders of the above agents sterilized by electron beam irradiation. The present invention provides a method of treating a patient having seizure disorder, stroke, or traumatic brain injury comprising administering an effective amount of the injectable neuro-steroid nanoparticle preparation.
