PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article where leakage from the opening of swollen water-absorbing polymers and break in washing are suppressed.SOLUTION: A vertically long absorbent article 10 includes: a front surface sheet 11 a rear surface sheet 12 and an absorbent body 20 held between the front surface and rear surface sheets. The absorbent body includes: an absorbent core 21 containing absorbent polymers 31 and an upper layer cover sheet 22 and a lower layer cover sheet 23 that cover the absorbent core. The upper layer and lower layer cover sheets are respectively positioned on the sides of the front surface and rear surface sheets. At least a part of the absorbent core is joined with at least one of the upper layer and lower layer cover sheets by an adhesive. The absorbent article has an opening 13 at least in a center area 14 of the front surface sheet. The opening reaches the inside of the absorbent core by penetrating the front surface sheet and the upper layer cover sheet in the thickness direction of the absorbent article. The aperture R of the opening is smaller than the particle size of the absorbent polymers in a water saturation swelling state.
