PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for treating diseases associated with meiotic kinase, preferably diseases such as cancer, associated with the presence of supernumerary centrosomes, as well as screening methods for identifying inhibitors of meiotic kinase HSET.SOLUTION: A method for treating diseases associated with meiotic kinase comprises administration of an agent to inhibit meiotic kinase. The agent is a small molecule or an RNAi agent. The agent inhibits the ATPase activity of kinesin or inhibits the microtubular binding activity of kinesin. A method for inhibiting growth of a cell whose proliferation is associated with meiotic kinesin comprises contacting the cell with an agent which inhibits a meiotic kinesin such that the cell proliferation is inhibited.
