PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating diseases associated with a meiotic kinase associated with the presence of excessive centrosomes, such as cancer, and to provide a screening method for identifying an inhibitor of meiotic kinase HSET.SOLUTION: The inhibitor of meiotic kinase is administered. The drug is a small molecule or an RNAi drug. The drug inhibits the ATPase activity of kinesin or inhibits the microtubular binding activity of kinesin. The method for inhibiting growth of a cell in which cellular proliferation is associated with a meiotic kinesin comprises contacting the cell with an agent which inhibits a meiotic kinesin such that growth of the cell is inhibited.
