The invention relates to a method and system for detecting the presence of an invasive device and for verifying that the invasive device is needed, in particular a urinary or venous catheter to be inserted in a patient (P) in a room (1) and comprising an associated tag, which tag is not detectable prior to its activation. The method comprises the steps of: disposing in the room at least one radio-frequency identification reader (4) with a region (ZD) for detecting the tag, defined such that the reader can detect the presence of the tag； activating the tag such that it becomes detectable； detecting via the reader, a first presence of the tag； sending a data item relating to the first presence of the tag to a server connected to the reader； storing, in the server, the data item relating to the first presence of the tag, a data item relating to the patient and the date and time of the first presence； and verifying, via the server, that the presence of the invasive device in the patient is needed.L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de détection de la présence d'un dispositif invasif et de vérification de la nécessité du dispositif invasif, notamment un cathéter veineux ou urinaire, destiné à être posé sur un patient (P) dans un local ( 1) et comprenant une étiquette associée, l'étiquette n'étant pas détectable avant son activation.
