Example embodiments disclosed include a soil monitoring system (300), comprising: a device (410) associated with at least one row unit (200) of an agricultural implement (10), said device (410) resiliently engaging a bottom of a soil trench (38) opened in a soil surface by the at least one row unit (200); a soil reflectivity sensor (350) disposed in said device (410), said soil reflectivity sensor (350) configured to measure light reflected from a soil surface within said soil trench (38), said light generated from light-emitting diodes disposed in said device (410); a processor (2405) in electrical communication with said soil reflectivity sensor (350); and a display (1700) in electrical communication with said processor (2405).
