PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new enhancer consisting of an isolated DNA containing a plurality of copies of the saccharide-responsive enhancer of grainα-amylase gene, and capable of raising the expression of an extraneous gene in the cells of an angiosperm exposed to environments involving saccharide depletion or containing gibberellic acid. SOLUTION: This enhancer is a new isolated DNA containing two or more copies of the saccharide-responsive enhancer of grainα-amylase gene and useful as e.g. an enhancer capable of raising the expression of an extraneous gene in the cells of an angiosperm exposed to environments involving saccharide depletion or containing gibberellic acid. This isolated DNA is obtained by the following procedure: several temporary expression systems in a protoplast prepared from rice suspension cells are subjected to functional loss, functional acquisition and linker scanning variant analyses and the aimed saccharide- responsive enhancer capable of highly expressing a glucose starvation-inductive gene is identified among riceαAmy3 promoters.
