The invention relates to an insertion device (5) for inserting loose items, for example almonds, nuts, puffed cereal grains and the like, into the recesses (3) of flat plates (4) that are provided with recesses (3) arranged in longitudinal rows one after the other. The insertion device (5) comprises a collecting chamber (9), which is open toward the top and contains the items in a loose arrangement, a removal device (10) moving the items individually out the collecting chamber (9) toward the top, and a dispensing device (11) guiding the removed and lifted items in at least one slide (12) to the bottom of the insertion device (5). The removal device (10) can be provided with a rotatable, hollow conveying disc (13) that is connected to a low-pressure source, extends into the collecting chamber (9) and comprises in at least one side wall (13a) at least one lateral suction opening (18, 39) for seizing the items.
