Insulated gas-heated chamber for drying or roasting edible particulates comprises one or more rotating treatment beds on which the particulates are distributed and turned gently in a continuous spiral pattern
Edible kernels are fed continuously to the periphery of a perforated, horizontally rotating disc bed (4) inside insulated chamber (1), heated directly by gas, e.g. air, and spread using plows (12) provided closely over the bed to guide the kernels gently in a progressive spiral pattern towards an opening in the centre of the disc (4). The kernels then fall via a chute (13) onto the periphery of another, similar disc (5) and plow arrangement for longer treatment or are discharged.
