Disclosed is a phenyl or biphenyl substituted five of six membered heterocyclic ring of formula (I). Examples of compounds of formula (I) include 4'-{ 3-[(2-acetylsulfanylmethyl-4-methylpentanoylamino)methyl]-5-propyl[1,2,4]triazol-4-ylmethyl} biphenyl-2-carboxylic Acid and 4-{ 3-[(2-mercaptomethyl-4-methylpentanoylamino)methyl]-5-propyl[1,2,4]triazol-4-ylmethyl} benzoic acid. Also disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (I), a process for preparing a compound of formula(I) and an intermediate useful in the synthesis of a compound of formula (I). Further disclosed is the use of a compound of formula (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for the preparation of a medicament for antagonizing an angiotensin II receptor in a mammal and inhibiting a neprilysin enzyme useful in treating hypertension.
