Detecting mold fungus infestation in hidden form on the spot, comprises measuring the typical markers of molds i.e. its metabolic products e.g. 1-decanol; operating a high resolution portable ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) into the suspicion room analysis of the room air on the spot; identifying and evaluating the spectrum with adapted mathematical and chemometric methods; separating the relevant substance from floors and furnitures of relatively high concentrations of solvents; recording the analysis and classifying the degree of mold strains; and detecting the fungal strains. Detection of mold fungus infestation in hidden form on the spot for few minutes to few hours (maximum 6), comprises measuring the typical markers of molds i.e. its metabolic products such as 1-decanol, 3-octanol, 1-octen-3-ol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, 2-pentanol, ethanol, methanol, 3-octanone, 2-heptanone, 2-hexanone, acetone, 2-butanone, 2-methylfuran, 3-methylfuran, 2-pentylfuran or dimethyl disulfide; operating a high resolution portable ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) with detection limits in the ppt range into the suspicion room analysis of the room air on the spot; identifying the spectrum using IMS under named substances, and carrying out an evaluation with adapted mathematical and chemometric methods, such as a cluster analysis feeding; separating the relevant substance of relatively high concentrations of solvents from floors and furnitures with a separation column, thus avoiding the cross-sensitivities; recording the analysis by a photoionization detector (gas chromatography-photoionization detector), where the number of insensitive registered substances in the IMS is alcohols, aromatics and phosphines; collecting, distributing and transmission of the metabolic products of volatile organic compound takes place through a heatable unit; classifying the degree of mold strains; storing the spectra of fungal strains and microbial volatile organic compounds in a reference database; detecting the fungal strains; differentiating volatile organic compounds from other sources and microbial volatile organic compounds from molds; spatially resolving the measurement of microbial volatile organic compounds; and additionally measuring the gas moisture.
