PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an animal model that is useful for screening a preventive or a therapeutic medicine for chronic hepatitis C, cirrhosis or hepatoma, and a production method therefor. SOLUTION: An animal into which a human hepatitis C virus (HCV) gene is inserted or its offspring is produced. An animal model showing the C pattern chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, or hepatoma is produced by using it. The animal model becomes useful as a material for determining the mechanism of crisis from cirrhosis to hepatoma and useful for developing a therapeutic preparation and a method better suited for the symptom by causing the animal model a symptom development similar to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatoma or human hepatitis C.
