PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilizing agent which reliably exhibits effects of sterilization, deodorization, and the like, and to provide a container therefor.SOLUTION: Provided is a sterilizing agent 1 filled in a container 2, comprising a tablet 11 of chlorine dioxide, a gelatinous composition 12 generated by adding at least water to a gelatinizer to make the same gelatinous, and additional water 13. Thus, a pH adjusting agent is not necessary, providing convenience that the sterilizing agent can be used as is when its use is started. Furthermore, in terms of persistence of gas evolution, convenience in handling, and the like, the gelatinous composition 12, together with the presence of additional water 13, can provide good diffusion of a chlorine dioxide gas into air.
