PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent excellent in whitening effect.SOLUTION: A whitening agent contains extract of Epiphyllum oxypetalum which is an evergreen succulent plant of Cactaceae originated in tropical rain forests in Mexico. The extract of Epiphyllum oxypetalum inhibits production of NRG1 which is a melanin generation promoter derived from a dermal fibroblast, has an excellent melanin generation inhibitory effect by inhibiting the expression of a melanin generation associated factor, and also has no problem in safety. Therefore, the whitening agent containing the extract of Epiphyllum oxypetalum is effective in skin care aimed at whitening.【課題】美白効果に優れた剤を提供する。【解決手段】メキシコの熱帯雨林を原産地とするサボテン科の常緑多肉植物である月下美人の抽出物を含有することを特徴とする美白剤である。月下美人の抽出物は、真皮線維芽細胞由来メラニン生成促進因子であるＮＲＧ１の産生を抑制し、メラニン生成関連因子の発現を抑制することにより、優れたメラニン生成抑制効果を有し、安全性においても問題なかった。従って、月下美人の抽出物を含有する美白剤は、美白目的のスキンケアに有効である。【選択図】 なし
