Various exemplary methods and devices are provided for improved surgicalsutures, suturesystems, and methods for suturing. In general, the sutures, suture systems,and methods canallow a suture to form a secure, closed loop without tying a knot. The suturecan include abarbed portion configured to be threaded through a hollow portion. The barbedportion can havea plurality of barbs thereon, which can grasp onto an inner wall of the hollowportion whendisposed therein to help secure the loop at a desired size. The barbs can allbe oriented in onedirection that corresponds to a direction of movement of the suture when theloop is beingtightened. Thus, the barbs can be configured to allow for a size of the loopto be easily reducedto any desired size to approximate tissue, but can be configured to resistsubsequent expansion ofthe loop to ensure that the tissue remains in place.
