The invention relates to a cosmetic process for treating keratinous fibers comprising: (i) a step of applying to the keratinous fibers a cosmetic composition containing a polyvinyl alcohol polymer comprising: - an alcohol unit - optionally an acetate unit - a unit photocrosslinkable - a hydrophobic unit； (ii) a step of irradiating the composition on the keratin fibers to crosslink said polymer. The invention also relates to the novel polyvinyl alcohol polymer used in said process. The treated keratin fibers have good cosmetic properties of softness to the touch, disentangling, after-shave after one or more shampoo (s).L'invention concerne un procédé cosmétique de traitement des fibres kératiniques comprenant : (i) une étape d'application sur les fibres kératiniques d'une composition cosmétique contenant un polymère alcool polyvinylique comprenant : - une unité alcool - éventuellement une unité acétate - une unité photoréticulable - une unité hydrophobe ； (ii) une étape d'irradiation de la composition sur les fibres kératiniques pour réticuler ledit polymère. L'invention concerne aussi le polymère alcool polyvinylique nouveau mis en oeuvre dans ledit procédé. Les fibres kératiniques traitées ont de bonnes propriétés cosmétiques de douceur au toucher, de démêlage, rémanentes après un ou plusieurs shampooing(s).
