A combination of composter and terraced beds allows the use of the waste heat and gases arising during the decomposition of the substances to be composted for the planting boxes (9) situated above. To this end, the interspace formed between the plants or planting earth and the actual compost container (7) is closed off by a sieve bottom (4). The supply of waste to be composted takes place via a filling opening (5) with a flap (5'). The ready compost earth can be removed by complete or partial pulling out of the covering (6) and filled into the planting boxes (9). In the watering of the planted boxes (9), water can pass through the sieve bottoms (4) to the waste to be composted, and as a result a continuous conversion of the substances into high-quality compost or high-quality humus is guaranteed. The compost production takes place without perceptible smell emissions so that the arrangement can be used on balconies, terraces or on house walls.
