Die Erfindung betrifft plättchenförmige kupferhaltige Metalleffektpigmente, welche einen Kupfergehalt von 60 bis 100 Gew.-%, bezogen auf den gesamten Metallgehalt, aufweisen, wobei die Metallpigmente eine über Dickenauszählung mit Rasterelektronenmikroskopie (REM) ermittelte Dickenverteilung in der Darstellung als Summendurchgangsverteilung, a) einen h50-Wert von 10 bis 50 nm, b) einen h90-Wert von 20 bis 70 nm aufweisen, wobei die plättchenförmigen kupferhaltigen Metalleffektpigmente durch Vermahlung eines kupferhaltigen Metallgrießes mit Schmiermittel hergestellt sind.
