Antimicrobial compounds from Bacillus subtilis for use against animal andhuman pathogens. A novel strain of Bacillus subtilis was isolated from thegastrointestinal tract of poultry and was found to produce a factor or factorsthat have excellent inhibitory effects on Clostridium perfringens, Clostridiumdifficile, Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli, and Streptococcuspneumoniae. The factor(s) retain full viability and antimicrobial activityafter heat treatment. The invention provides a method of treatment ofpathogenic microorganisms including C. perfringens.
