PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control of the water quantity and temperature of a water storage tank 10 with reduced amount of water and steam supplied from outside.SOLUTION: An apparatus for heat treating containers includes a plurality of high-temperature water sprinkling regions 12A and 12B, and low-temperature water sprinkling regions 12C, 12D, 12E and 12F. Water is supplied from water storage tanks 10A to 10F of each of the water sprinkling regions 12A to 12F to upper sprinkler nozzles 8A to 8F, so as to be sprinkled onto a container 4 transported on a transportation conveyor 6 for heat sterilization and cooling treatment. A water pipe 13C for supplying water from the water storage tank 10C disposed at the uppermost stream side in the low-temperature water sprinkling region to the water sprinkler nozzle 8C is connected with a feed pipe 44 for supplying water to storage tanks 10A and 10B disposed in the high-temperature water sprinkling region. During operation, water is usually supplied from the water storage tank 10C in the low-temperature water sprinkling region to the water storage tanks 10A and 10B in the high-temperature water sprinkling region.
