A system for sterilization of oil palm fruit bunches comprising a sterilizer (10) having a tapered bottom and a fruit bunch inlet (11) located at the top to receive wetted oil palm fruit bunches feeding a damping member (12) positioned within the sterilizer (10) and configured to reduce gravitational impact of the received fruit bunches prior to settling in the sterilizer (10) a pressurized steam distributor (13) having a plurality of vertical conduits (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d) spaced apart to each other on inner surface of the sterilizer (10) and a fruit bunch outlet (14) disposed on one side of the sterilizer (10).
