There is provided herein a composition for incorporation into foods, beverages, nutritional or vitamin supplements, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals, which comprises one or more phytosterols and/or phytostanols and additionally, glucomannan. This composition is useful in a wide variety of therapeutic indications, but in a preferred form, may be used to treat or prevent cardiovascular disease and its underlying conditions including atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemic conditions, dyslipidemia, hypoalphalipoproteinemia, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and visceral obesity.
