The present invention provides an apparatus to assist in the removal of waste matter during automated harvesting of berries, such as grapes. The apparatus is suitable to be fitted to mechanical harvesting machines, and intercepts the flow of any contaminating matter in the harvested berries, thereby improving the purity of berries harvested and permitting increased harvesting speeds.
