The present invention provides a method of treating a seaweed extract comprising a target molecule and a pyrogenic agent, the method comprising the step(s) of: inactivating the pyrogenic agent and/or removing the pyrogenic agent, wherein the method results in a reduction in pyrogenicity of the extract.
