Agents for oxidative hair coloring containing 70-95 wt.% water； oxidation dye precursor(s)； an alkalizing agent； 0.1-2 wt.% anionic zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant； sodium polyacrylate； cross-linked co-polymers of acrylic acid and C10-30-alkyl acrylic acid； branched C10 -C50 alcohol； and a linear, saturated C8-C22 alcohol. The agent does not contain any linear carboxylic acids or any oxidants. In a preferred embodiment, the alkalizing agent is monoethaolamine, the surfactant is sodium laureth sulfate, the branched alcohol is 2-octyldodecanol and the linear alcohol is coconut alcohol. Kits containing the agent and methods for using the agent are also disclosed.
