The present invention concerns a method for protecting a patients esophagus (2) while ablating tissue of the patients heart, comprising the steps of: - inserting an intra-esophageal system into the esophagus (2) of a body - moving the esophagus (2) from an initial position close to the patients heart to a second position further away from the patients heart by operating the intra-esophageal system - ablating tissue of the patients heart - returning the esophagus (2) into said initial position by relaxing the intra- esophageal system and - removing the intra-esophageal system from the esophagus (2), wherein during the step of moving the esophagus (2) from an initial position to a second position, the intra-esophageal system applies a negative pressure along an area of the esophagus (2). The present invention further concerns an intra- esophageal system and a use of the intra-esophageal system as an intra- esophageal system in the method of the present invention.La présente invention concerne un procédé de protection de loesophage dun patient (2) pendant lablation de tissu du coeur du patient, comprenant les étapes consistant à : - insérer un système intra-oesophagien dans loesophage (2) dun corps - déplacer loesophage (2) depuis une position initiale proche du coeur du patient jusquà une seconde position éloignée du coeur du patient en actionnant le système intra-oesophagien - procéder à une ablation de tissu du coeur du patient - replacer loesophage (2) dans ladite position initiale en relâchant le système intra-oesophagien et - retirer le système intra-oesophagien de loesophage (2) au cours de létape de déplacement de loesophage (2) dune position initiale à une seconde position, le système intra-oesophagien applique une pression négative le long dune zone de loesophage (2).
