PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface sheet for an absorbent article which achieves both of the prevention of a liquid flow on a skin-contact surface of the surface sheet and the prevention of a liquid return from a non-skin-contact surface side.SOLUTION: A surface sheet 1 for an absorbent article includes a rugged surface in which a projecting part 3 and a recessed part 4 are arranged on a skin-contact surface side, and the periphery of the projecting part is enclosed by the recessed part. The projecting part 3 has an internal space 13 on a non-skin-contact surface side, and a back surface hydrophobic part 35 is arranged in a part of a non-skin-contact surface of the projecting part 3 facing the internal space 13. A surface hydrophobic part 38 is provided in a part on a skin-contact surface of the projecting part 3 in such a manner as to have a length shorter than the back surface hydrophobic part 35 in a cross-sectional view in a diagonal line that passes an apex of the projecting part 3 and is shortest in a plane view.
