PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toxic substance removing device, capable of effectively reducing a toxic gas component in treatment object air by use of a photocatalyst, and also suppressing re-release of highly volatile organic matter generated in the decomposition process of the toxic gas component.SOLUTION: The toxic substance removing device 1 includes a preliminary processing unit 2 disposed in a path through which the treatment object air including the toxic gas component is passed and a latter processing unit 3 disposed on the downstream side of the preliminary processing unit 2. The preliminary processing unit has a porous adsorbent 12 for adsorbing the toxic gas component in the treatment object air, the photocatalyst 13, and an ultraviolet lamp 8 for irradiating the photocatalyst with ultraviolet ray.
