PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transforming a plant of the genus Oryza by an Agrobacterium method, which is a universal method applicable to a large number of rice plant varieties including useful varieties and has a remarkably high transformation efficiency, and a method for obtaining a plant body of a transformed plant of the genus Oryza without carrying out a selection using a selection marker gene.
SOLUTION: The method for transforming the plant of the genus Oryza by an Agrobacterium method includes: immersing a callus of plant of the genus Oryza in a suspension obtained by culturing and suspending Agrobacterium to which a foreign gene is previously transferred then standing the callus on filter paper having absorbed a liquid medium for cocultivation in an amount of 90-110% of a liquid to be absorbed and carrying out cocultivation with Agrobacterium so as to introduce the foreign gene into the callus in high efficiency.
