Disclosed are systems, devices, and methods for registering a luminal networkto a 3Dmodel of the luminal network. An example method comprises generating a 3Dmodel of aluminal network, identifying a target within the 3D model, determininglocations of aplurality of carinas in the luminal network proximate the target, displayingguidance fornavigating a location sensor within the luminal network, tracking the locationof the locationsensor, comparing the tracked locations of the location sensor and theportions of the 3Dmodel representative of open space, displaying guidance for navigating thelocation sensor apredetermined distance into each lumen originating at the plurality of carinasproximate thetarget, tracking the location of the location sensor while the location sensoris navigated intoeach lumen, and updating the registration of the it, model with the luminalnetwork based onthe tracked locations of the location sensor.
